✦ Synopsis

The title complex, (C 6 H 18 N 2 )[V 2 Cl 5 (C 6 H 16 N 2 ) 2 ](C 24 H 20 B).-C 4 H 8 O, was prepared by the reaction of [V 2 Cl 3 (THF) 6 ](BPh 4 ) with [FeCl 2 (tmeda) 2 ] in the presence of one equivalent of tmeda (tmeda = N,N,N H ,N H -tetramethylethylenediamine) in methanol. The crystal structure shows the tmeda to be coordinated to the vanadium core groups. The exchange of the diamine from iron to vanadium sheds new light on the mechanism of self-assembly of triangulo trinuclear complexes.
