Dysprosium-doped heavy metal glasses and transparent glass-ceramics have been investigated using optical spectroscopy. Visible luminescence due to 4 F 9/2 -6 H J/2 (J = 11, 13, 15) transitions of Dy 3+ was registered. Based on excitation and emission spectra as well as luminescence decay analysis, s
