✦ Synopsis

ChemBuminescence from beam-gas reactions of Ba atoms with Cl2 and Bra moleculesis observed by the use of both a mouo~h~mator and an O!MA. The two-step rea$ion mech~ism for the formation of BaCla is confirmed by computer simulations of the pressure dependence of the BaCla emission and the spatial distribution of its emission intensity.

The c%emilumincscence spectrum of the reaction Ba + CCL has been anaIyzed to be due to x-z emission of CC12. Since the x state is known to have a long lifetime (3.8 PS) it is possible to determine the angular distribution of the chemiIuminescent species visually. In addition, the mean translational

The mechanisms of the reactions of diborane with ammonia have been investigated by ab initio molecular orbital methods. The activation barrier of the formation of aminoborane, H,&NHr, from the adduct, H,B : NHs, of borane and ammonia is high (over 40 kcal/mol), because it is a reaction essentially
