## Abstract ## Background Fibroblasts isolated from strictures in Crohn's disease (CD) exhibit reduced responsiveness to stimulation with transforming growth factor (TGF) β1. TGF-β1, acting through the smad pathway, is critical to fibroblast-mediated intestinal fibrosis. The membrane glycoprotein,
