✦ Synopsis
This work presents the three-photon resonant, one-photon ( 3 + 1) ionization spectrum of chlorine in the region of 73 170-79360 cm-' above the neutral ground state. In contrast to one-photon experiments, an intense double-peaked band progression attributed to "Cl2 and "Cl "Cl is observed in this energy region and assigned to a 'Z,( v'= 0-7)+X 'Xi (u"= 0) Rydberg excitation. The molecular constants of the 'X, Rydberg well as determined from the vibrational progression are T,= 74013 (5) cm-', 0.=628(3) cm-' and 0&~=4.4(6) cm-'.
