โœฆ Synopsis

Two-and three-photon resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization spectra of the 3d Rydberg states of CS2 in the 154-160 nm region are reported. Noting that the selection rules for multiphoton transitions are quite different from those of one-photon transitions, the electronic origin of the 3dA8 RydbergeX transition of CSr is redefined to 63323 cm-'. The associated vibrational frequencies of the ut, v2 and the 2v,, 2v2 modes and the separation of the H and Q components of the v1 vibration in this excited state are determined,

The lifetime of the Ss state of CSz at 205 nm has been directly measured using femtosecond ultraviolet 1 + 1 multiphoton ionization spectroscopy. Excitation pulses in the deep UV are produced by third harmonic generation of amplified CPM pulses. The lifetime of the Sa (or A) state at 205 nm is measu

A new lEau 3~,,~ Rydberg state is found in the three-photon spectrum of benzene at 56080 cm-', near the previously knou n r Asu state. The vibronic structure of these states is found to be intertwined and an esS vibration previously assigned to the rAzu state is suggested to belong to 'Ezu. This vib
