criteria-AIC. BIC, and HQ-can be modified for use in MR image reconstruction. It is shown that these criteria poorly penalize the uncertainty of model parameters that occur when the order is high, making it difficult to choose a suitable model order. An adaptive algorithm has been developed to overcome this problem. Images modeled with order estimates, rather than a fixed whole-image order, show a significant reduction of overmodeling artifacts while still showing reduced truncation artifacts.
