The quasi-chemical model for ternary solid solutions proposed by Alex and McLellan [I] J. Phys. Chem. Solids 32, 449 (1971). was extended to include next-nearest neighbor interactions between interstitial and lattice atoms. It is shown that this model can describe the behavior of dilute oxygen solid solutions in niobium-vanadium-oxygen alloys. The analysis shows that the interaction between oxygen and lattice atoms may extend to the next-nearest neighbor shell. These thermodynamic results are compared with the diffusion results obtained for niobium-rich and vanadium-rich alloys. Ce modele permet de decrire le comportement de solutions solides d'oxygene diluees dans le systeme Niobium-Vanadium-Oxygene. Notre analyse montre que les interactions entre les atomes du rkseau et les atomes d'oxyg&te peuvent s'etendre aux seconds voisins. Nous comparons nos rtsultats thermodynamiques avec des r&.ultats de diffusion obtenus dans des alliages riches en niobium et en vanadium. Zusammenfassung-Das van Alex und McLellan fiir ternlre lMischkristalle vorgeschlagene quasichemische Model1 wurde erweitert, urn die Wechselwirkung zwischen den Zwischengitter-und den iibernlchsten Gitteratomen zu beriicksichtigen. Dieses Model1 kann das Verhalten einer verdiinnten Sauerstofflijsung in den Niob-Vanadium-Sauerstofflegierungen beschreiben. Die Analyse ergibt. da13 die Wechselwirkung zwischen Sauerstoff-und Gitteratom bis auf die Schale Bberniichster Nachbarn ausgedehnt sein kann. Diese thermodynamischen Ergebnisse werden mit Diffusionsergebnissen von Niob-reichen und Vanadium-reichen Leigierungen verglichen.
