✦ Synopsis

In response to recently developed experimental techniques in solid-state lasers we have developed a model of the transient behavior of an end-pumped,

injection seeded laser. The model describes the four-level operation of a general solid-state laser; the focus of numerical work is specifically for the T&doped sapphire laser system. In this paper we report on our analysis of the quantitative behavior of the solution and we prove a number of qualitative properties of the model system; the most important of these is that the system is asymptotically stable

## _* The rate equations for cavity dumping of a laser resonator require definition of the unsaturated gain and a saturation parameter. For a TEM00 lasing mode and arbitrary distribution of inversion power in the laser rod, pump power and circulating power are related by an integral over the rod c
