✦ Synopsis

Threshold photoelectron photoion coincidence measurements and the peak shape analysis of an ion flight time distribution are reported showing metastable fragmentation of photoexcited B,H, at 800 8, wavelength yielding the monomer ions BH: (with rateconstant k= 10 ps-'), BH,+ (k=2 ps-') and BH* (kz0.6 ps-').

An MNDO characterisation of the potential energy surface of the C2HsN+ system provides a coherent picture which can explain all the experimental observations. The distinctive feature of this study is the elucidation of the role played by several intermediates in the loss of acetylene and molecular h
