✦ Synopsis


The kinetics of the polymerization of methyl methacrylate, initiated by AIR3-acyl peroxide, have been investigated. The polymers were of relatively low molecular weight because of a great activity of the complex A1R3.M as a transfer agent. The value Ct for AI (i-Bu)a/MMA was found to be 0" 6 at 0 °. From the results of the present and earlier investigations, the formation of free radicals in systems of this type is regarded as resulting from the reaction of peroxide (a bifunctional electron donor) with the complex AIRa.M which acts as a bifunctional acceptor.
