โœฆ Synopsis

Calculation of tissue TI in double spin-echo imaging (90"-T-I 80"-2T-1 SO0) using two repetition times (6, and b2) has entailed an approximation that ignores the two 180" pulses. The theoretical consequence of the simplification is to overestimate TI with a fractional error that increases with increasing TI faster than linearly in a manner dependent on the sequence parameters. With b l , b2, and T as parameters, the theory gives a family of curves relating TI to the predicted ratio of signals acquired at b2 versus bl intervals. Tissue TI can be determined from the observed signal ratio with no approximation. Consideration of noise effect on the precision of TI so determined favors the use, within limits, of higher b2/bl ratio for the same bl + b2 time. At constant b2/bl, using longer b, + b2 permits wider range of TI to be measurable with a specified minimum precision.

In vivo T1 measurements are usually made from images. In this paper we describe an alternative method in which data are collected from a strip instead of from an entire plane. We will compare the signal-to-noise ratios, the time to make a measurement, and the error in T1 as well as other aspects of

The magnetic field dependence of the water-proton spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T(1)) in tissues results from magnetic coupling to the protons of the rotationally immobilized components of the tissue. As a consequence, the magnetic field dependence of the water-proton (1/T(1)) is a scaled report o
