The collision-activated dissociation (CAD) mass spectra for a series of crown ethers, perfluor0 crown ethers, cryptands and several dicyclohexano substituted crown ethers are reported. The CAD spectra were acquired with a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer, and in some cases spectra were recorded a

It is shown that fragmentation under electron impact of binuclear crown ethers is similar to those for crown ethers with the general formula L-crown-n except for the formation of fragment ions with mass numbers reflecting the ring sizes in binuclear crown ether molecules. The formation of these ions
extract was dried over CaCI 2 and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography [silica gel, benzene--ethyl acetate (5:1)] and recrystallized from benzene--heptane to give 1.98 g (48%) of III.
