✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A set‐up able to achieve a magnetic characterization at a sub‐micron scale will be presented. Together with topographic and optical images, it is possible to plot local hysteresis loops (LHL) and magneto‐optical differential susceptibility (MODS) using a transverse MOKE‐like configuration. We will show how MODS allows to follow the evolution of the wall and domains on a micron sized object. A comparison between the images of domains and the micromagnetic simulations on several micron sized objects will be finally presented. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

We report on the construction of a scanning near-Ðeld optical microscope (SNOM), which has been designed to permit imaging at the solid/liquid interface. The probe consists of a tapered Ðbre tip and the so called lateral shear force is used for the tip-sample distance regulation. The liquid environm
