✦ Synopsis

We present a neutron diffraction study on a polycrystalline sample of the heavy-fermion compound UPd2Ga3. Both the crystallographic and magnetic structure have been determined. Below the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature TN = 13.4 K, uranium moments of 0.50(5)#B orient parallel to the hexagonal basal plane, with an antiferromagnetic stacking along the c-axis. High-field magnetoresistivity and susceptibility up to 16 T establish the phase diagram, which strongly resembles that of UPd2A13.

The following issues concerning UPd2A13 are addressed: (i) its anisotropic magnetic phase diagram which can be explained by domain-reorientation effects, (ii) the coexistence between magnetically ordered local 5f moments and Cooper pairs formed by weakly delocalized 5f states and (iii) distinct anom
