✦ Synopsis


The magnetic circular dichroism of neodymium ethylsulphate nonahydrate has been measured at low temperatures up to 18 K. The three absorption band transitions observed are analysed; they are well-separated in the present measurements and correspond to transitions from the ground state 4I9/2 to the excited states 'HI+, 4G7/2 and 2P&\Vith the aid of the energy levels already established, the g values for several crystal-field levels are derived from the Faraday parameters. These results show fairly good agreement with other experimental and calculated values.
