Lymphocyte development

B and T lymphocytes are key cell types of the adaptive immune response. In common with all the other formed elements of the blood, they are derived from haematopoietic stem cells. The study of haematopoiesis has given us important insights into the properties of stem cells and progenitor cells. This knowledge may find clinical application in the study of leukaemias and lymphomas. Selected Internet resources devoted to lymphopoiesis, lymphocyte biology and lymphoid organs are listed.
