✦ Synopsis
A new double pass long wavelength band erbium-doped ÿber ampliÿer with enhanced noise ÿgure characteristics is demonstrated. The noise ÿgure is improved by about 2:6 dB with the incorporation of broadband conventional-band ÿber Bragg grating (FBG) in between the two segments of erbium-doped ÿber. By incorporating both the pre-ampliÿer and the FBG, the noise ÿgure is further improved, which varies from 4.0 to 5:0 dB in the at gain region from 1570 to 1600 nm. The gain varies from 32.0 to 33:4 dB within this region. The new ampliÿer with high gain and low noise ÿgure can be useful as an inline ampliÿer in a wavelength division multiplexing transmission system.

The double-pass erbium-doped zirconia fiber amplifier (EDZFA) is proposed and demonstrated to provide a wide-band amplification as well as flat-gain operation in both the C-and L-band regions using only a single-gain medium. The proposed amplifier utilizes an erbium-doped zirconia fiber (EDZF) with
In this paper, a novel configuration of reflection L-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (L-EDFA) via inserting a 980 nm pump laser diode (LD) in the input part was constructed. By selecting appropriate power ratio of the 980 and 1480 nm pump LD, gain and noise figure (NF) of the L-EDFA are greatly im
