## Abstract A new double‐pass long‐wavelength‐band erbium‐doped fiber amplifier with enhanced noise figure characteristics is demonstrated by adding a short length of forward pumped erbium‐doped fiber (EDF) in front of the double‐pass amplifier. By adding 7 m of EDF, the amplifier achieves a flat‐g

✦ Synopsis
In this paper, a novel configuration of reflection L-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (L-EDFA) via inserting a 980 nm pump laser diode (LD) in the input part was constructed. By selecting appropriate power ratio of the 980 and 1480 nm pump LD, gain and noise figure (NF) of the L-EDFA are greatly improved in different degree in the wavelength region from 1565 to 1615 nm. Compared to the configuration pumped by only 1480 nm pump LD with given power, the noise figure decreases 1.3-9.4 dB and the gain enhances 1.5-9.9 dB.

## Abstract A novel reflection L‐band erbium‐doped fiber amplifier, based on a fiber loop mirror, is constructed. This amplifier reflects the backward ASE to the EDF as a secondary pumping source. A gain of 30 dB (an increase of 6 dB) is obtained, compared to the forward‐end‐pumped EDFA in the rang
## Abstract Gain clamping in a long‐wavelength‐band erbium‐doped fiber amplifier (L‐band EDFA) using a C/L‐band WDM coupler is demonstrated. The gain for the amplifier is clamped at 15.5 dB with a gain variation of less than 0.2 dB from input signal power ranging from −40 to −14 dBm with almost neg
