✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A novel L‐band fiber amplifier comprised of two sections of erbium‐doped fiber (EDF) and an optical reflector is used to enhance power‐conversion efficiency (PCE). We also examine how an optical amplifier can be used without an optical reflector while nonetheless making effective use of amplified spontaneous emission in order to increase the gain. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An efficient gain-flattened C-band Erbium-doped fibre amplifier is demonstrated using a double-pass configuration with an IsoGain^TM^ Erbium-doped fibre (EDF). The amplifier utilizes a double-propagation of signal provided by an optical circulator at the output end of the EDF to obtain an improved f

## Abstract A novel reflection L‐band erbium‐doped fiber amplifier, based on a fiber loop mirror, is constructed. This amplifier reflects the backward ASE to the EDF as a secondary pumping source. A gain of 30 dB (an increase of 6 dB) is obtained, compared to the forward‐end‐pumped EDFA in the rang

## Abstract Gain clamping in a long‐wavelength‐band erbium‐doped fiber amplifier (L‐band EDFA) using a C/L‐band WDM coupler is demonstrated. The gain for the amplifier is clamped at 15.5 dB with a gain variation of less than 0.2 dB from input signal power ranging from −40 to −14 dBm with almost neg
