<p>This timely work presents a comprehensive overview of the development of new generations of infrared detectors based on artificially synthesized quantum structures. The growth of quantum wells and superlattices is well documents in this volume, as are the principal new superlattice technologies f

β¦ Synopsis
Long-wavelength Infrared Semiconductor Lasers provides a comprehensive review of the current status of semiconductor coherent sources emitting in the mid-to far-infrared spectrum and their applications. It includes three topics not covered in any previous book: far-infrared emission from photo-mixers as well as from hot-hole lasers, and InP-based lasers emitting beyond two micrometers. Semiconductor lasers emitting at more than two micrometers have many applications such as in trace gas analysis, environmental monitoring, and industrial process control. Because of very rapid progress in recent years, until this book no comprehensive information beyond scattered journal articles is available at present.Content:
Chapter 1 Coherent Semiconductor Sources in the Long?Wavelength Infrared Spectrum (pages 1β17): Hong K. Choi
Chapter 2 2?Β΅m Wavelength Lasers Employing InP?based Strained?Layer Quantum Wells (pages 19β68): Manabu Mitsuhara and Mamoru Oishi
Chapter 3 Antimonide Mid?IR Lasers (pages 69β143): Linda J. Olafsen, I. Vurgaftman and J. R. Meyer
Chapter 4 Lead?Chalcogenide?based Mid?Infrared Diode Lasers (pages 145β216): Uwe Peter Schie?L, Joachim John and Patrick J. McCann
Chapter 5 InP and GaAs?Based Quantum Cascade Lasers (pages 217β278): Jerome Faist and Carlo Sirtori
