✦ Synopsis

Previous experiments using rat/mouse somatic cell hybrids have localized the rat c-myc gene to chromosome 7 (Siimegi et al. 1983), the rat immunoglobulin kappa locus to chromosome 4 (Perlmann et al. 1985), and the rat immunoglobulin heavy chain locus to chromosome 6 (Pear et al. 1986). Using a similar approach, we now report the localization of the rat immunoglobulin lambda light chain locus to chromosome 11. (Pear et al. 1987). Molecular analysis of eight tumors has shown that the translocation juxtaposes the c-myc, located on chromosome 7, with the IgHlocus, located on chromosome 6. Because both BL and MPC juxtapose the c-myc with Ig light chain loci by chromosomal translocation, we are interested in studying if variant translocations also occur in the RIC. As a first step, we have previously localized the rat Ig kappa light chain locus to chromosome 4 (Perlmann et al. 1985). We now report the localization of the rat Ig lambda light chain locus to chromosome 11.

A cDNA library from mink spleen was constructed by use of the phage hgtll. The library was screened using polyvalent serum raised against the mink immunoglobulin k chain. As a result, several clones expressing mink immunoglobulin h light chains were identified. Sequencing of one of the clones with a
