β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Brain tumors can be treated with the laser. The CO~2~ laser may be used in several ways. Massive or wellβencapsulated tumors may be removed in the usual way and the remnant vaporized by the laser from the depth, dura, or cranium. If the tumor is superficial and not massive, it may be vaporized with the laser immediately.
Deepβseated tumors may be exposed by incising the overlying cortex with a focused laser beam and the tumor then treated by conventional means or with the laser or both.
Cystic tumors must be aspirated and then the laser used to vaporize the cyst wall. Wet cotton pads should be used to protect the brain. The experience with nine brain tumors is reported, pointing out advantages and disadvantages of the laser. A 300 watt CO~2~ was used for treatment. Measurement of the temperature of the brain 0.5 cm. from the point of vaporization is reported.

It has been observed that patients with metastatic brain lesions developed neurologic symptoms when given Corynebacterium parvum. To obtain more information in patients with intracranial mass lesions, intracranial pressures (ICP) were measured or observed in six patients undergoing C. parvum therapy
A new laser vaporization source based on a flashlamp-pumped Ti : sapphire laser has been used to produce cluster beams. Its pcrformancc is compared to the standard cluster sources based on ncodyme YAG lasers. We show that the Ti : sapphire source is much more efficient: the clusters deposition rates
