✦ Synopsis

The (A^{4} \Pi-X^{4} \Sigma^{-}(0,0)) band of MoN between 5990 and (6350 \AA) has been studied using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. In addition to observing the stronger (\Delta \Sigma=0) transitions, the weaker (\Delta \Sigma= \pm 1) transitions have also been recorded and analyzed. The ({ }^{95} \mathrm{Mo}) and ({ }^{97} \mathrm{Mo}) nuclear hyperfine structures (\left(I=\frac{5}{2}\right)) give considerable broadening to the (F_{1}) and (F_{4}) branches with six hyperfine components of a rotational line spread more than (0.1 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}). The hyperfine linewidths vary with (J) in the manner expected for spin uncoupling from case (\left(a_{\beta}\right)) to case (\left(b_{B J}\right)) in a high multiplicity state. A merged least-squares fit of the present data and the earlier work yielded improved molecular constants of both the (A^{4} \Pi) and (X^{4} \Sigma^{-})states of the seven isotopic molecules.
