โฆ Synopsis
A CO2 TE laser excited fluorescence experiment demonstrated that ozone in the (001) vibrational state causes the enhancement in the rate constant recently observed for the reaction 03 f NO -N0$(2B3 + 02. Rate constants for v;ibrational deactivation of 03 by NO2 and 02 at T = 298 K were measured by observing the IO pm fluorescence from 03, with the results k03_~02 = 5900 rt 660 s-' torr-' and k&-O2 = 605 f SO s-* torr-l-The total rate of removal of 01 by NO was determined from NO; fluorescence measurements and agrees with the value currently in the literature. The enhancement of the room temperature reaction rate between NO and 0, following vibrational excitation of the 0, (001) state by a CO;? laser was
