Abstract
Smog chamber/FTIR techniques were used to measure k(Cl + HCF~2~OCF~2~OCF~2~βCF~2~OCF~2~H) = k(Cl + HCF~2~O(CF~2~O)~n~(CF~2~CF~2~O)~m~CF~2~H) = (5.0 Β± 1.4) Γ 10^β17^ cm^3^ molecule^β1^ s^β1^ in 700 Torr of N~2~/O~2~ diluent at 296 Β± 1 K. The Clβinitiated atmospheric oxidation of HCF~2~OCF~2~OCF~2~CF~2~OCF~2~H and the sample of HCF~2~O(CF~2~O)~n~(CF~2~CF~2~O)~m~CF~2~H used in this work gave COF~2~ in molar yields of (476 Β± 36)% and (859 Β± 63)%, respectively, with no other observable carbon containing products (i.e., essentially complete conversion of both hydrofluoropolyethers into COF~2~). The results are discussed with respect to the atmospheric chemistry and environmental impact of hydrofluoropolyethers of the general formula HCF~2~O(CF~2~O)~n~(CF~2~CF~2~O)~m~CF~2~H. The rate constants for the reactions of OH radicals with CH 3 OCF 2 CF 3 , CH 3 OCF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , and CH 3 OCF(CF 3 ) 2 have been measured over the temperature range 250-430 K. Kinetic measurements have been carried out using the flash photolysis, laser photolysis, and discharge flow methods combine
The reaction of CF3 radicals with Ha0 (D20) has been studied over the range of 533-723 K using the photolysis and the pyrolysis of CFJ as the free radical source. Arrhenius pa- rameters for the reactions where X = H or D, relative to CF:j radical recombination are given by log kHlkf'2 = (5.12 f 0.1
