✦ Synopsis

Rate coefficients have been measured at 298 Ϯ 4 K and 1000 mbar total pressure for the reactions of OH with a series of symmetrical acetals (R9O 9CH 2 9O 9R, R ϭ C 1 to C 4 ) using a relative kinetic technique. The investigations have been performed in a laboratory photoreactor and also in the large outdoor EUPHORE simulation chamber facility in Valencia, Spain. The following rate coefficients (in units of 10 Ϫ11 cm 3 molecule Ϫ1 s Ϫ1 ) have been obtained: dimethoxy methane (R ϭ CH 3 ), 0.49 Ϯ 0.02; diethoxy methane (R ϭ CH 3 CH 2 ), 1.84 Ϯ 0.18; din-propoxy methane (R ϭ CH 3 CH 2 CH 2 ), 2.63 Ϯ 0.49; di-iso-propoxy methane (R ϭ (CH 3 ) 2 CH), 3.93 Ϯ 0.48; di-n-butoxy methane (R ϭ CH 3 CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 ), 3.47 Ϯ 0.42; di-iso-butoxy methane (R ϭ (CH 3 ) 2 CHCH 2 ), 3.68 Ϯ 0.57; di-sec-butoxy methane (R ϭ CH 3 CH 2 C(CH 3 )H), 4.68 Ϯ 0.05.
