✦ Synopsis

The novel compounds K 2 AuPS 4 (1), Tl 2 AuPS 4 (2), K 2 AuAsS 4 sium or thallium ions. Neighbouring Au atoms are bridged by MS 4 3Ϫ tetrahedra (M = P, As) in a trans orientation. Com-(3), and KAu 5 P 2 S 8 (4) have been synthesized by direct reaction of the elements with a molten alkaline polythiophospha-pound 4 crystallizes in the space group P2 1 /c. The anionic chains of 4 are built up from linear AuS 2 dumbbell units and te(arsenate) flux at 550°C. The crystal structures of these compounds have been determined by single-crystal X-ray PS 4 3Ϫ tetrahedra. The chains extend along the [11 ¯0] and [11 ¯0] direction and are separated by charge balancing K + cat-diffraction techniques. 1, 2, and 3 crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2 1 /m. The structures of 1, 2, and 3 consist ions. Each of the compounds was investigated by differential thermal analysis, FT-IR, and solid-state UV/Vis diffuse reflec-of infinite, one-dimensional anionic chains running along the crystallographic b axis. The chains are separated by potas-tance spectroscopy.
