In a crossed-beam experiment the cross sections for Hg+ and KrHg+ production in collisions between metastable krypton and mercury atoms have been measured in the 0.07-0.50 eV collision energy range. The 3Pe and 3Pz states of Kr\* show a different role in these ionization processes: the 3Pe state pro
