โฆ Synopsis
In a crossed-beam experiment the cross sections for Hg+ and KrHg+ production in collisions between metastable krypton and mercury atoms have been measured in the 0.07-0.50 eV collision energy range. The 3Pe and 3Pz states of Kr* show a different role in these ionization processes: the 3Pe state produces both the atomic and diatomic ion in the whole energy range investigated, while the 3Pz state produces only the diatomic ion after a threshold energy around 0.15 eV.
