✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Ion exchange equilibria for different cations against H^+^ were measured on a bifunctional cation exchange resin containing both sulfonic and carboxylic groups (Lewatit H 236). The S‐shaped curves obtained are due to the bifunctionality of the resin. The special forms of these curves seem to be influenced by an interaction between the two exchanging groups. The selectivity increases as follows: Li+ < Na^+^ < K^+^ < Ca^2+^ < Zn^2+^ < Cu^2+^.

## Abstract Ion‐exchange equilibria measurements were made on soluble polystyrene sulfonic acids and polyacrylic acids of different exchange capacities. The exchange of Li^+^, Na^+^, Ca^++^, Ba^++^, and H^+^ against NH~4~^+^ was measured with the dialysis method. The results obtained are similar to

## Abstract Side reactions in the solution and in the resin phase and the special binding forces cause difficulties in measuring ion‐exchange equilibria with heavy metal ions. To avoid these difficulties special experimental conditions must be used. The ordinary batch method can be improved by taki
