✦ Synopsis

The observed Rnnxm excitation profiles of iodine in chloroform are analyscd in terms of Morse potentkds in the round and excited states. It is shown that excitation profiles and absorption spectra peak at different frequencies due IO the anharmonicity of the vibrations and that the vibrational potential in the I3 3~o+u _ state is very sensitive to solvent interactions.

The excitation profiles of a number of Raman active bands of all-tram retinal have been measured in the visible region. These experimental results are compared to curves obtained from both '22" and 'B" terms arising in the theory of Raman spectra. The A term gives an excellent description of the dat
