✦ Synopsis

We stained resected specimens from 117 patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma for insulin-like growth factor-I1 (IGF-11) by the avidin-biotinperoxidase (ABC) method and evaluated the usefulness of IGF-I1 as a prognostic factor. The patients were classified into the IGF-I1 (+) groups showing staining of 1% or more cancer cells (60 patients) and the IGF-I1 (-) groups showing staining of < 1 % (57 patients). The 5-year survival rate was 22% in the IGF-I1 (+) group and 54% in the IGF-I1 (-) group (P < 0.01). Our results suggest the usefulness of IGF-I1 stainability as a prognostic factor of pulmonary adenocarcinoma.

Insulin-like growth factor I1 is believed to play an important role in fetal growth and development. The insulin-like growth factor I1 gene expression is tissue specific and developmentally regulated. We have previously shown an enhanced level of insulin-like growth factor I1 messenger RNA and prote

The soluble form of the insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II)/mannose 6-P (IGF-II/ M6P) receptor is released by cells in culture and circulates in the serum. It retains its ability to bind IGF-II and blocks IGF-II-stimulated DNA synthesis in isolated rat hepatocytes. Because these cells are not nor

In the current study the authors have investigated whether human primary breast cancer specimens contain insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) receptors (IGF-1-R) or IGF-1-like activities. Simultaneously, epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptors (EGF-R) and cytosolic estrogen receptor (ER), progestero
