The construction, operation, and performance characteristics of a membrane-covered photobacterium probe are described. Using Photobacteriumfischeri (strain MJ-I) and polypropylene or silicone-rubber membranes this device responds equally rapidly (r,,2 < 8 s) in gas or liquid phases. Linear photoemi

โฆ Synopsis
A procedure, based on the complex formation of malachite green with phosphomolybdate under acidic conditions, to measure inorganic orthophosphate in the nanomolar range is described. The addition of polyvinyl alcohol is required to stabilize the dye-phosphomolybdate complex. The advantages of the assay are simplicity, stability of the reagents, and high sensitivity. Due to the high permissible acidity in the assay (0.9 N H2S04), the method can be adapted easily to measure nanomolar amounts of phosphate, liberated from organic compounds like phosphoproteins and phospholipids after wet digestion. o 1987 Academic press, ~-EC.

An assay was developed for carbamyl phosphate phosphatase (CAP phosphatase) activity. This enzyme activity is difficult to assay because of the chemical instability of carbamyl phosphate (CAP). We chose to measure CAP phosphatase activity by monitoring release of inorganic phosphate (Pi). This entai
