Q-and C-banding were used for characterizing the heterochromatin of Culiseta longiareolata (Macquart, 1838) (Diptera: Culicidae) and made possible the identification of sex chromosomes. Three types of heteroehromatin were distinguished on the basis of staining characteristics and arrangement along chromosomes.
