✦ Synopsis

An in situ high pressure X-ray diffraction study on synthetic pure ilvaite powder has been performed using a diamond anvil cell. A phase transition from monoclinic to orthorhombic (Pbnm) has been observed at 2.25 Gpa, which can be described as a 2-transition.

The lattice constants of both superconducting (orthorhomic, sample I) and nonsuperconducting (tetragonal, sample II) YBazCu,O,-, have been measured as a function of pressure up to about 130 kbar at room temperature. It is found that the linear compressibility of I along the a-axis, K,, nearly equa
