✦ Synopsis
The lattice constants of both superconducting (orthorhomic, sample I) and nonsuperconducting (tetragonal, sample II)
YBazCu,O,-, have been measured as a function of pressure up to about 130 kbar at room temperature.
It is found that the linear compressibility of I along the a-axis, K,, nearly equals K, but K,, is larger than K, or K,. On the other hand K, is nearly the same as K, for tetragonal sample II, which means that the compression is isotropic.
These results are discussed in connection with other layered low dimensional compounds.
