✦ Synopsis

Effect of chronic oral exposure (10 and 20 mg kg -1 body wt. for 7, 15 and 30 days) to hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) on open-field behaviour and activities of cerebral Na + ,K + -ATPase, Mg 2+ -ATPase and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) of rat was evaluated. Motor and grooming activities were altered, whereas vertical exploratory activity was unaffected by HCH. Activities of Na + ,K + -ATPase, Mg 2+ -ATPase and AChE were inhibited significantly by the pesticide. The results suggest that HCH induces impairment of the enzymes involved in synaptic activity, resulting in behavioural alterations.

This study examined brain regional neurotransmitter level changes as a function of seizure duration following soman intoxication. Rats, implanted with cortical electrodes and pretreated with HI-6, received a convulsant dose of soman. At selected times after seizure onset the EEG recording electrodes

3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, Ecstasy) is a widely abused drug that is structurally related to both amphetamines and hallucinogens. In addition to the behavioural and neurochemical eects of MDMA, we recently reported that an acute administration of this drug produces a profound suppressio

The purpose of the present experiment was to test the possibility that atypical antipsychotics and classical antipsychotics differentially regulate specific neurochemical processes within the entopeduncular nucleus. For these experiments, rats were administered clozapine (25 mg/kg), haloperidol (1 m

## Abstract Previously, preweaned rats have been shown to perseverate rather than alternate choices of goal arms over 2 trials in a T‐maze. In this study 16‐day old animals were successfully induced to increase their rate of alternation to chance level in the present experiment by increasing the no
