โœฆ Synopsis

Heterogeneous recombination of 0 + CO + GO, over a solid CO, surface at 77 K was investigated. A modified discharge flow setup was used to generate low 0 atom concentrations by the reaction N + NO + N, + O(3P). The 0 atom concentrations were measured upstream and downstream of the solid C02 substrate using resonance fluorescence by monitoring the unresolved 130.3 nm triplet transition 'S1 -3P2,1,0 at the two fixed points. GOz formed was determined by measuring the p activity from C1*O2 produced from CO containing CI4O as a reactant gas. The CO, formation was found to be first order in CO and independent of 0 atom concentration over the entire range of 4.3 x 10" to 1.9 x 1014 cm-3 and 1.2 x 10" to 5.6 x 10" cm-3 for CO and 0 respectively. The first order recombination coefficient, yco was found t o be 1.4 (2.38) x 10-5.
