Abstract
Cell suspensions from spleen, peripheral blood, thymus and bursa of Fabricius of normal chicks and cells from spleen and peripheral blood of chicks with myeloid leukemia were investigated by the hemolytic plaque technique. Spleen cells from normal chicks older than 14 days produced maximum relative numbers of hemolytic foci 5 days after immunization. No signs of hemolysin production were found in cells from peripheral blood, thymus or bursa of Fabricius from non‐leukemic chicks.
Spleen cell suspensions from many chicks with myeloid leukemia produced fewer hemolytic foci than spleen cells from normal chicks. However, in some leukemic chicks the immunological reactivity per spleen was similar to that of non‐leukemic spleens. In these chicks white cells in peripheral blood were also capable of PFU formation.
