β¦ Synopsis
Medium that had supported the growth of insect cells was depleted in components of both the basal medium and foetal calf serum. In addition, a non-dialysable growth-inhibiting factor(s) appeared to exist. The pH had risen to a sub-optimal level and simply readjusting this to pH 6.6 partially restored its capacity to support cell growth. The most promising alternative serum supplement tested was new-born calf serum.

The lipid emulsion components of a serum-free insect cell medium were varied and evaluated for effects on cell growth and recombinant protein expression. The growth of High-Five(TM) cells was significantly affected by polyol Pluronic F-68 and Tween-80, but not by lipids. Pluronic was essential for c
The procedure of analyzing hormone and growth factor requirements for the growth of MPC-I I cells and of developing a serum-free medium for this cell line has been described. In this medium, MPC-I I cells grow as fast as in serum-supplemented medium, up to 50 generations. MPC-I I cells grown in ser
Egg yolk lipoprotein promoted growth of a wide variety of mammalian cell lines, including plasma-cytomas and epithelial cell lines, in serum-free medium. The lipoprotein was active for cell growth when used with insulin, transferrin, ethanolamine and selenite. The most active lipoprotein fraction (Y
Suspended BHK 21/13 cells were cultivated in 6M medium supplemented with PVP, bovine serum, LAH, YE, choline chloride and inositol at several concentrations. The maximum working capacity of the bioreactors was 400 ml and the experiments were run for 40 days. The growth promoting effects of each subs
