## Abstract Cultured mesophyll protoplasts of __Nicotiana tabacum__ L. can be hormonally induced into different developmental pathways. In a medium containing auxins (NAA) and cytokinins (BAP) cells divide and eventually give rise to calli. When only auxins are present cells elongate and finally di

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Bacteria grown on methanol exhibit a poor efficiency of energy conservation, which is mainly due to the low P/O ratio of 1 associated with methanol oxidation. Thermodynamic considerations indicate that a P/O ratio of at least 2 is possible for this step in substrate oxidation. This low efficiency of energy conservation is reflected in the yield values on methanol, which are very important in the consideration of biomass production from methanol. Unfortunately in continuous culture there is no obvious way to select for organisms with a greater efficiency of energy conservation.

MCF-7 cells were co-transfected with the human HSP27 antisense cDNA and the neomycin resistance gene, included in the constitutive expression vector pSVL, and the phenotypical changes associated with decreased expression of the HSP27 protein were analysed. Three out of 10 neomycin-resistant clones o
## Abstract It has been reported previously that a plasma membraneβenriched fraction from 3T3 cells arrests the growth of sparse 3T3 cells early in the G~1~ phase of growth (Whittenberger et al., β²78, β²79). Addition of membranes to sparse 3T3 cells also results in a decrease of the rate of transpor
