โœฆ Synopsis

Green energy and quality labelling

This column discusses developments and policy regarding the supply and use of green energy. It is a co-operation between Refocus and www.greenprices.com. In each issue key information will be presented on green energy in Europe and abroad. This month's column discusses aspects of green energy labelling.

Shades of Green

How green is green? Usually, green energy refers to energy produced from renewable energy sources like wind, solar, hydro and biomass. However, in principle any supplier could call its product "green" without explicitly stating what exactly contributes to the 'greenness' of the product. Apart from renewable energy sources, the term 'green energy' is used for green energy produced from cogeneration, energy from waste, and even conventional energy sources. 1

A hydroponic growth procedure which enables the intrinsic 42Calabelling of green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L) has been developed. Whole-plant Ca influx was measured from planting through the period of pod expansion for a crop of 60 plants grown hydroponically in a 3 m2 area. Total Ca influx was 10.1
