✦ Synopsis

ABP (a large Dutch pension fund), the ING Group, the Dutch Internal Revenue Service (IRS), IBM and the Telematica Instituut started the Testbed project in April 1996. It is a major project in size (125 man-years) and impact (major companies involved). Testbed stands for virtual test environment for business processes (Franken, 1997) and aims at a systematic and managerial approach to achieve change in business processes in the financial service sector. This will require the development of targeted knowledge, best practices, methods and supporting software tools. The use of clear business process models to support change trajectories is an important aspect of Testbed. The project's primary target group are business consultants, who will be able to use the Testbed products to provide fast and easy insight into complex business processes and to try to assess the proposed changes by comparing them to the business targets. The execution of a large number of pilot cases in which project results are directly applied and validated is what really matters in the development of Testbed. In this article we will give a description of the context, objectives, approach and the latest results.
