✦ Synopsis

It is shown that if the shape of the adsorption isotherm does not depend on the electrode potential q and the double layer capacitance C decreases to a certain limiting value with increasing concentration of the organic substance, the energy of adsorption is a quadratic function of p. In this case, regardless of the choice of the equation of the adsorption isotherm, at a sufficiently strong interaction between the adsorbed particles and at a not too small concentration c of the organic substance, the dependence of the potentials of the peaks on the C/q curves upon log c should be a parabola and the dependence of the height of the peaks upon log c a straight line. A criterion is considered which on the basis of experimental data permits the choice of an equation of the adsorption isotherm. Frumkin's isotherm is shown to agree best with experiment. On the basis of this isotherm, the general relationships between the potentials of the peaks on the equilibrium C/p, curves and the concentration of the organic substance, as well as those between the height of these peaks and log c, are considered.

The adsorption of normal aliphatic alcohols on a polarized Hg electrode from solutions in ethylene glycol has been investigated by capacity measurements. The experimental data have been processed in terms of the Frumkin-Damaskin theory. Results have shown that the adsorption of alcohols (from hexano
