β¦ Synopsis
Authentic guanidinoacetic acid, P-guanidinopropionic acid, y-guanidinobutyric acid, arginine, and homoarginine were converted into dimethylpyrimidyl derivatives by reaction with acetyl acetone, the carboxyl group was esterified by butyl alcohol, and the trifluoroacetyl derivatives were analyzed by the gc/ms technique. Guanidinoacetic acid, y-guanidinobutyric acid, arginine, and homoarginine were identified in rat and bovine brain material by the same technique. Taurocyamine was not detected by this method in either authentic or animal samples.

Acid extraction, partial purification on Amberlite CG 120, and derivatization with pentafluoropropionic anhydride preceded the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A moving-needle solventless sy
A capillary column gas chromatographic mass spectrometric method, involving the use of a deuterated analogue as internal standard, was developed and used to identify and quantify tryptamine in the rat brain. The mean level of tryptamine in rat whole brain was 0.54 pmolg-l.
