✦ Synopsis
Data are presented which strongly suggest that stabilisation of the eacrted intermediate o\lz)* complex in the reaction (1) Nt + 2Nz (rate coefficient kl) occurs via N2 switching whereas for (2) Nt + Nz + He (rate coefticient k,) it occursvia superelastic He collisions. This explains the differing temperature variations of k, and k, previously obttined for these reactions. Drift tube data are also presented which show how k, varies with N;/N* centre-of-mass energy as compared with thermal energy.

## Abstract The title reaction, which is spin‐forbidden for N~2~(X^1^∑) + NO(X^2^Π) production, has been studied from 960 to 1130 K in a high‐temperature photochemistry reactor. No reaction could be observed, indicating __k__ < 1 × 10^−15^ cm^3^ molecule^−1^ s^−1^. It is concluded that there is no
