β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
With diffusion tensor MRI one has access to the organization in space of tissue microstructural components. This outstanding potential adds, however, another layer of complexity to the diffusion MRI data acquisition and analysis processes. Over the last few years many articles have been published dealing with those matters. This special issue is thus timely to provide readers with the synthesis and the overall viewpoints from leading contributors to the field. Copyright Β© 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

## Abstract This study characterizes the diffusion anisotropy of the human kidney using a diffusionβweighted, singleβshot echo planar imaging (EPI) sequence in order to access the full apparent diffusion tensor (ADT) within one breathhold. The fractional anisotropy (FA) of the cortex and the medull
Apparent diffusion tensor (ADT) measurements on the spinal cord using a pulsed-field-gradient (PFG) multi-shot echo-planar imaging (EPI) sequence are presented. In a study of 10 healthy volunteers, the obtained rotationally invariant anisotropy information is compared to the results obtained by the
