✦ Synopsis
Products of copolymerization of di(chloromethyl) benzene (DCMB) with diphenylmethane, prepared using stannic chloride as catalyst and having tool. wts. up to approximately 1000, have been separated using preparative gel permeation chromatography and characterized by the use of i.r., NMR and mass spectrometry. Rate curves have also been obtained for the formation of each product. Their formation has been accounted for and further insight has thus been obtained into the corresponding reaction between DCMB and benzene reported previously.
