A range of renewable energy based technologies for power generation and heating needs are being introduced on Isla de la Juventud in Cuba. The technologies are being introduced by virtue of a project initiated by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) back in February 2002. UNIDO in conjunction with the Centre for the Management of Priorized Programmes and Project (GEPROP) from the-Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in Cuba have been carrying out economical and technical pre-feasibility studies as the main output of the project to date. The results of the initial project phase will be submitted to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) on April 2003 with the aim of gaining additional necessary financial support to move the
